DNA profiling can be used to identify individuals by their DNA.   DNA profiling is especially useful to for solving crimes but they can also be used to confirm relations to people. The fingertip printing technique was developed by Leicester University geneticist Alec Jeffreys in 1985 which led to later advancements in technology in this field. STR analysis is another name for "Modern-day DNA profiling" which is a very sensitive technique which only needs a few skin cells, a hair root or a tiny amount of blood or saliva.  (Citation 1)

Your genes are small parts of a very long molecule called the DNA. Each person has the same set of genes- around 20,000 altogether. They determine the details that makes everyone in the world look different. For example, genes decide your haircolor, how long your fingers are going to be, the size of your ears and etc etc. You contain 50 trillion tiny cells that are placed into chromosomes. Humans have 23 chromosome, while other organisms have different number sets of chromosomes. So basically, DNA is organized into chromosomes, chromosomes are organized into genes and genes make protiens. Cells are kind of like chefs. They use instructions from your genes. Protiens do most of the of the work in your body, and some of them also shape the cells.

Genes

Genetic testing is a type of medical test that looks for alterations in a person's genes or changes in the level of structure of key protiens coded for by specific genes. There are different types of genetic tests that are performed to detect various types of diseases.

Genetic Testing

Ancestry DNA Profiling is used to track down your ancestors by using DNA samples. It has become an important tool in genealogy. You can discover where your ancestors migrated from, what percentage of your genome is affiliated with specific regions of the world, etc.
